Risk Assessment
If imitating a scene which involves a prop which can potentially cause physical harm to one of the casted members through improper usage then certain precautions will be needed in order for those cast members to remain safe from any sort of injury. For example if using a sharp object such as a knife then you will need to make sure that the person holding it and the person who may be being attacked by the prop have fully coordinated with what is going to occur during filming so that both cast members know exactly what they are doing in order to prevent either of them being at risk of injury.
Another precaution which should be taking is making people around the area aware that you are filming for a horror movie, especially if a cast member is wielding a prop used in a killing scene as it'll cause distress for the public and will most likely result in the police being informed.
If filming in an old house/barn area you must make sure that you are in a safe environment, for example if the building is liable to have any sharp objects in such as shattered glass or nails sticking out from floorboards. Another precaution to take is to make sure the surroundings are safe and if something does occur then it is easy for the person effected to be evacuated from the area and treated for any injury sustained.
When using the filming equipment you must take extra measures to enable that you do not damage the equipment at all costs. This can range from checking if the camera is screwed onto the tripod correctly to if you're in the dark and making sure you either don't drop it, or knock it into anything. Another precaution involving the safety equipment around water you must make sure that you don't drop the camera in the water so it doesn't become damaged.
