Order Of Titles
At the start of every single film there are always opening titles which name the people who were involved in the making of the film. We researched the order that the titles in an opening sequence should run in, as we know that there is a traditional pattern that we should strictly stick to in our own opening title sequence. We looked at the opening titles of many different horror opening title sequence to see how they were presented. However, we noticed some films feature less titles than others, this is because a film from a smaller production company may need to include credit to a co-producer or an investor, whereas a higher established production company such as Ghost house may be able to fund and make the movie individually. Through research we came to conclude that a lot of British horror films feature more titles as we don't have the same quality of production companies and resources than in the USA.
Order of titles for The Grudge (2004)
The Grudge (2004) is an American made film and the running order of the titles in the opening title sequence is:
1. Distribution Company logo
2. Production Company logo
3. Producer/Distributor present
4. Production Company
5. Writer/Director
6. Main Star
7. Title
8. Stars
9. Casting Directors
10. Music Composed
11. Editor
12. Production Designer
13. Director of Photography
14. Co Producers
15. Executive producers
16. Producer
17. Story/Written/Screenplay
18. Director
We also liked the style and effects of the titles in the opening title sequence of The Grudge (2004). Some of the titles were displayed on a red background rather than over clips in the opening title sequence and had eerie effects to represent the grudges hair. We thought this was very effective as it presented more of a horror theme than average titles juxtaposed with motion pictures. The use of black writing and effects on a red background meant that it stood out greatly and also red is a typical horror colour and suggests a lot about the film.

We are choosing to title our sequence like a rich production company with the money to make our film by ourselves and therefore using as minimal titles as we can. This is because we are only limited to 2 minutes for our opening title sequence and we also believe this will engage our audience more as a large amount of titles will stop the flow of our sequence. We have chosen to include the following titles:
1. Distributon (Visionary Studios presents)
2. Production Company (A Contagion Pictures production)
3. A film by.... (Alex Drew)
4. Title (Specimen Z)
5. Starring (Molly Geddes, Simon Packer)
6. Casting by (Ellie Burris)
7. Music by (Andrea Mcdaid)
8. Production Designer (David Arkell)
9. Edited by (Kyle Dokic)
11. Written and directed by (Amy Chevannes)
